Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto's crashed plane
At the end of my book, The Reluctant Admiral, Fleet Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, Chief in Command of the Combined Fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy, was shot down by American P-38 Lightning interceptors over the island of Bougainville, in Papua New Guinea. Following this, the book goes on to mention the aftermath of Admiral Yamamoto's death, which include the investigation of what actually happened in the crash, and the funeral of Yamamoto. In my opinion, The Reluctant Admiral is an important book. This is because it shows the character of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto and the struggles that he went through, it shows that he wasn't just some cold blooded Japanese leader that planned the Attack on Pearl Harbor, instead it shows that Yamamoto had a life outside of the Imperial Japanese Navy, that he had a family, that he cared about those who worked under him and that he did not want to put them in danger. It also gives a relatively rare viewpoint into what the Japanese thought of the Pacific war, and the struggle inside of the government about it. It explains that Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto did not even want war against the United States, and that he did not want the Japanese Empire to join the Tripartite Act, and it was not just Yamamoto, but the navy as a whole that disagreed with the army about these two crucial decisions that in the course of less than a decade led the Empire of the Rising Sun to its ruin.

My book, The Reluctant Admiral, is a biography of Fleet Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander in Chief of the Combined Fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The book talks about Yamamoto from the 1920's, and his visit to the United States and Europe as an ambassador, his time as the head of the aviation division of the Imperial Japanese Navy, his time as the representative on the preliminary talks of the Second London Naval Conference, his time as the navy vice minister, the time he spent as Commander in Chief during the war, on to his death on April 18th, 1943. The book spends most of its time covering the topic of WWII. World War II has influenced many things on today's world, such as warfare, the economy, what countries influence the world, and their allies. In the book, Yamamoto predicts that battleships will become obsolete, and the greatest asset of navies would be its air corps. This did end up happening. During WWII, the two major navies of the world, the Imperial Japanese Navy and the United States Navy, focused on building new aircraft and their carriers instead of building new and more powerful battleships. Even today, navies do not use battleships, they use aircraft carriers. Another example of how the Second World War affects the modern world is that because Japan was not able to defeat the United States, the US became one of the superpowers. Not only that, but when Japan declared its unconditional surrender on August of 1945, the United States and General Douglas MacArthur wrote the new constitution. One of the things that they put in the constitution, is that Japan has to renounce war, and that they are not to build weapons of war or have a military (they can still have a defence force though). Even now, the Japanese government is trying to repeal or at least change that article of their constitution.
My book, The Reluctant Admiral, is a biography of Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander in Chief of the Combined Fleet of the Japanese Empire. It is set in Japan during the 1930's to 1943 when Isoroku Yamamoto was assassinated by American P-38 Interceptors during an inspection tour. Historically, Japan during the 1930's and 40's was facing the Great Depression. Not only that, but they also were part of the Tripartite Pact and so they were allied with the Nazi Third Reich, and Fascist Italy. Japan itself had a surge of militarism and imperialism in its government, culminating with Hideki Tojo and Yamamoto's attack on Pearl Harbor, which brought the United States of America into WWII. As of now, the book has Japan's imperialistic conquests in page 4. "Greeting Ishiwara,he asked where he was going. Ishiwara replied that he had been appointed commander of the Sixteenth Division and was on his way to Tokyo. he was to have an audience with the emperor, and intended to advise him that the present war (the China Incident) should not be allowed to continue". It has also mentioned the fact that Yamamoto will plan the attack on Pearl Harbor on the first page, "If one were to bring together a group of people who did not know what Yamamoto looked like, and to ask them which of these twenty-odd men was the one who in later years was to plan the attack on Pearl Harbor and oversee the fleet that carried it out," but the book is not yet into that point. The people of Japan had different viewpoints of what is happening. Some people, like Yamamoto did not want to go to war, meanwhile others did want to go to war against countries such as China. Even so, most people in the navy agreed that it would be unwise to declare war on the United States of America or the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Introduction So many people in this world do not know when their next meal is. More specifically in Wake County around 130,000 people do not know when their next meal will be. Hunger affects all kinds of people in this area. For all you know the person sitting next to you in class or someone walking past you on the sidewalk might have not eaten in days. I luckily have always had access to food at home. But I do get hungry in between meals and when I do I talk about how hungry I am and that I can't stand it. Thinking about this makes me very sad because if I feel that hungry without having eaten since breakfast I can’t imagine how it would feel to have not eaten in hours, days, or longer. That's why I am interested in helping anyone and everyone who is experiencing hunger. You should help the hungry as well because for all you know by giving your time or money you could be saving someone's life. The Issue North Carolina ranks as one of the top ten worst states when it comes to children under 18 who are lacking food on a regular basis, and in Wake County 19.6% of children live in food insecure homes, (Southeastern University Consortium On Hunger, Poverty, and Nutrition, 2013). This is because in 40% of families people have had to choose between paying rent/mortgage and food, and 35% of people have had to choose between paying for heat and food, (TABLE, 2017). One in four children in North Carolina are at risk of hunger, (Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, 2017). One of the effects of being food insecure is that people try to get food from more affordable places such as fast food restaurants. Because of this, North Carolina ranks fifth for childhood obesity, (TABLE, 2017). Three out of four teachers say that children in their classroom come to school hungry regularly, because of this their performance in school drops. They might be unable to concentrate, and they might have headaches and stomach aches, (TABLE, 2017). Furthermore, food insecurity is linked to increased hospitalisations, (TABLE, 2017). The Solution All of the food pantries in Wake County are making a difference. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle “saves 6 million pounds of healthy food from being thrown away and re-routes it to these people in need,”(Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, 2017). They also teach people how to garden, so that those struggling can grow their own food. Their motto is “Give a man a fish. Teach a man to fish. Stock the pond for all,” (Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, 2018). This means that they will provide food for people and teach people how to grow food. They adjust to each individual's needs. Tri-Area Ministry is a little different. They have clients, and distribute food to each client once a month (Tri-Area Ministry, 2017). There are many many different organizations in Wake County alone. From the Tri-Area Ministry to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, most people in Raleigh have access to a place for food. The problem, though, is that we need to stock these food pantries and we need people to volunteer and harvest food to keep these organizations running. What use is a food pantry that has no food to hand out and no people to hand out food? Imagine if this... Became this... Empty shelves, no food. Can you imagine? This is what it would be like, though, without volunteers to keep food pantries going. Our group is wanting to volunteer at Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. They are a great organization that provides food to all sorts of people in this area. We specifically would like to work at the farm because that is not something that many food pantries have. The barn where I ride and keep my horse is right down the rode from this farm and I have seen lots of people volunteer and they seem to be having a lot of fun. Action Plan We would start out the day at school, then parent volunteers would drive the group to the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle farm sight, 2300 Dover Farm Rd, Raleigh, N.C. Students would pack a lunch which would be eaten at the farm.We would spend two to three hours there, then come back to school. Depending on the number of students participating, we would need need anywhere from one to three chaperones. It would be preferable, though, that we had one chaperone for every five students to make sure that students have access to help while farming. A form will be sent home with participating students asking for parent volunteers. Students and parents alike MUST BRING A WATER BOTTLE to insure proper hydration, as we will be working outdoors for many hours. Work clothes should be worn since we will be working (no flip flops, sandals, or nice clothes). This trip should begin around 8:00 in the morning and we would be back b the end of the school day. But the more time we can donate the bigger impact we will make! This interests me because I people in my home country of Venezuela are going hungry, one of those being my aunt. This is a problem because being hunger can lead to health problems down the line and it might make it harder to concentrate, thereby making your grades drop. Something that you could to to help with this issue is to simply give the food that you might not want to eat during lunch to someone else, something else that you can do is to donate to food pantries. Hunger is an issue that can be erased, so we have to do everything that we can to help those in need.
This I Believe I believe that you should stand up to bullies before it gets out of hand. A few years ago, when I was still living in Venezuela, I went to a school called Colegio La Salle. When I was in second grade, my class and I were going to the Physical Education area. This area was on top of a hill right next to the school, so we had to go over a ramp. The ramp is pretty tall, I would say that it is at least 10 to 15 feet high. So, when we were going over the ramp, one of my classmates, I do not remember his name, pushed me over the ramp. I do not know how I got over the railing, but the point is that I did. I was confused, one moment I was walking and the next I was falling to the ground. I landed on top of a rock, which would have been better than to have landed on top of a tree, which almost happened. I couldn’t stop crying. I didn’t break anything but my back hurt so much. I had to stay at home for a few days because of that but afterwards I was fine. I didn’t understand why he did that, I had never done anything bad to him before and he did not do anything to me. While I didn’t break anything, I could have gotten really hurt. I think that what he did was wrong though I never really learned the reason he threw me off the ramp. Because I didn’t know why he did so I wasn’t able to prevent it from happening, but this is not always the case. You should always try to stop a bully before the situation gets like what happened to me or before it gets even worse. This is why I believe that you should stand up to bullies before it gets too late. |
